How to grow as a beginner Computer Science Student

It’s a very tricky question or title if we look at it.

Computer science is that one subject or course which if you put your heart and soul into will be a prosperous triumph for you but if you don’t, then worst-case scenario. It will become your nightmare.

As all know and are aware that it’s a subject that deals with computers and their functional systems, includes the hardware and software part of it and of course the coding part (one of my favorites). Now you’d be curious about how coding became my favorite?

Well, for the fact that I was an IP (informatics practices) student back in my high school. It’s similar to computer science, just a little easier than CS.

Anyways, yeah, CS is a subject that requires a lot of effort. precisely speaking, the concentration at that. because it’s not a glass of beer that you’ll simply be able to chug in, at one go.

It has its own requirements and rules. focus is the basic thing in terms of this subject.

I mean, if you don’t focus on the uses and functional framework of a computer from the beginning itself, how do you possibly think you will be able to carry it forth?

Well, keeping that in mind. let’s get into more detail about what it deals with:

  • mostly the software part
  • the system of software which of course, includes the theory part of it and its design, developmental structures, and applicational terms.
  • Of course, it has mathematics in it.
  • has algorithmic formulations and indeed has a hand in artificial intelligence

Computer science is one thing in many. a lot of inventions and innovations take place in this field but to be very brutally honest, it has rare scope in India. especially in the cornered states of India.

Yes, of course, CS career people are there, departments are there. but how many even? It’s very hard to find CS-based workers and students in India because again, family pressure and all of that.

Well, we aren’t here to talk about it.

We are here to converse about how to grow as a beginning computer science student.

Well, growth in this field is only possible if you are determined.

If you are ready to be provided with tons of knowledge, lose a bit of sight due to having to sit in front of your laptop or pc for the coding part and of course, have a brain and back that can intake long theories and hours of work then my friend, you are good to go.

First of all, to be able to succeed in this choice of subject, you need to be active as you should.

It’s all easy to take on and remember theoretical concepts in CS, except for the coding part which you may find a bit difficult in but you will eventually be fine.

So, getting onto the basic points of growing -

- do not procrastinate. same as to what I said to be active. I mean, it’s the

worst effect you can have on your choice of a CS major.

- do not pursue CS just to look cool or anything. it’s not a subject to be taken casually.

- Try to be good in math and if you are already (which you are, as to why chose CS) then just try to be better, I guess.

- learn to work in a team. teamwork is quite often needed in terms of computer science persuasion because then you can share the stress amongst yourself. don’t end up scratching your head alone just because you got confused in understanding a line or couldn’t run a code.

- be as fast with your coding as you can. I mean, you cannot spend one hour on one code, right? try to figure out mistakes as fast as you can. have that critical thinking mindset. read and write and type. read and write and type. then figure it out. you know hand in hand. Try that, it helps.

- take an online course maybe, where you can just clarify your mistakes. There are free courses dude. In the end, they even give you a certificate on your course completion. Hehe.

- give it you're all.

looks like so many things need to be done to be an expert in this field of study. isn’t it? but it’s not. only in written words, they look huge and too hard, when it comes to actually apply them in real life.

It will be easy. easy for the ones who actually start the implementation in a good form. try to be a more rational thinker, you know. have that practicality.

After all, it’s only a subject/field like the rest of the others. it will not eat you up. do not ever be afraid of it. if you are afraid of something, it’s not your cup of tea and is never going to be. amidst all of the stress, learn to have a life of your own too. do not be so harsh in bettering yourself that you end up sitting in front of the books, laptop/pc for 24/7. Just go and take some fresh air for some time, come back and you will notice better-focusing energy has taken birth inside of you. a more determined zeal, you know.

Problem-solving characteristics eventually get developed in the meantime.

Careers in the computer science field, if you may ask

I said there are fewer scopes in India, I never said there are no scopes. There are tons of occupational choices in this field and do not consider just one country for your dreams, go ahead, work hard and pursue it even in a further place (only if you would be able to not be homesick for 365 days like one-two months are okay).

so yeah, careers and jobs, with that precious important degree of yours. if you ace the CS course in your school/college/uni (short for university). here’s what you can do and become:

1. IT consultant

You see, it’s not going to be an easy job for those who’d not take it sportingly. but for those who take it sportingly, here’s the job for you. it’s a work somewhat to what you see and notice in movies, you know office

cabins, lots of typing, analysis, designing, programming and all. except that what we see/saw is a movie and what we are going to do in reality.

2. cybersecurity consultant

3. database administrator

4. systems analyst

5. multimedia programmer

6. a game developer (comes with a wave of fame if you put the right amount of effort and succeed in it)

7. data scientist

8. software engineer (no, not your family’s machine mechanic. this profession is much more than what it looks).

9. web developer

10. technical writer

11. software architect

12. forensic computer analyst

And the list continues. the workload, of course, is quite too much to take at times, because it’s all technical work related to technology and nobody. literally, nobody goes on without the usage of technology these days. but with hard work, comes the fruit of it. for the ones who want to earn a lot, let me tell you it’s big money in these careers of CS field if you make it big. and for the ones who love this field in itself, it will anyway be your happy pill.

With that, we come to the conclusion of this discussion. well, to have a growth, just-

- have the basic knowledge of cs, math and go on with discovering for more

- try to cope up with different levels of programming sessions

- understand the depth of everything topic

- try to be alert and aware of whether you are understanding that particular theory or code.

- be more productive and creative in thoughts

- problem-solving skills must be a given

- try to ease out, balance, and manage time in all the daily chores of your life where of course, studying and jotting down points has to be there alongside you taking care of yourself.

Most importantly, choose the field for yourself. If you actually love this subject, nobody can stop you from blooming in it.
